Objectives of the project

The overall objective of the Sports4GreenDeal project is to raise awareness of the role of outdoor sports activities in improving physical and mental well-being, as well as active citizenship and more environmentally responsible behaviour. This will be achieved by developing digital tools, green competence and a roadmap for the sustainable development of sport involving citizens, athletes, students, coaches and leaders in the European Union's sports 'ecosystems'. All these activities are aligned with the needs and challenges of civil society for a green transformation and at the same time act as a connecting element for sports organizations on a European scale that share values and motivation for a cleaner, healthier, greener and more -favorable local environment for sports activities.

Project activities:

Organization of a pan-European sports event in Ruse municipality, for outdoor sports: triathlon (swimming, running, cycling), orienteering and sailing with dragon boats;
Side events during the main sports event: thematic conference, workshops, artistic festival and photo exhibition;
Development of educational material and video training for coaches, organizers of sporting events and students of physical education and public health.
Increase competence related to responsibility towards environmental issues among sports clubs and organizers of sports events and encourage them to adopt sustainable solutions in their daily activities and events;
Development of an innovative digital tool to support the municipality regarding the "Change Challenge" initiative to motivate and encourage citizens to be physically active and strive for environmentally responsible behavior by choosing "active transport" and engaging in outdoor physical activity - walking, running and cycling;
Development of training material and video training for volunteers in outdoor sports, to strengthen the skills and motivation of volunteers;
Development of a road map for sustainable development of sport and standards for high quality "green" interventions to promote sport and physical activity.
