Кметът Пенчо Милков откри мащабния спортен форум „Sports4GreenDeal”

"I am happy that today we can start such a wonderful initiative in Ruse. Our city loves sports and develops dozens of activities in this direction. With the help of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and with European support, in the coming days we will welcome guests from 9 countries. We have tried to provide good conditions for all competitors and I am confident that they will achieve impressive results, as well as have fun in our beautiful city and on the lake in Lesopark "Lipnik".

With these words, Mayor Pencho Milkov addressed all those present at the opening conference of the sports event under the Sports for Green Deal project, funded under the EU Erasmus Programme, which was held in the hall "St. Georgi" in the premises of the local administration. Official guests at the opening were Iliana Hristova, director of the "European Programs, Projects and International Cooperation" Directorate at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Teodora Sarakostova, state expert and Assoc. Dr. Daniela Oronova from the National Academy of Sciences.

In the hall "St. Georgi" were also attended by representatives of clubs participating in the sports event - from Serbia, Germany, Turkiye and North Macedonia. The representatives of the remaining 4 countries are expected to arrive this evening and in the early hours of tomorrow.

Assoc. Daniela Oronova presented a brief history of dragon boats from ancient times to the present day. She also noted the recently held lake festival in Pancharevo, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming Dragon Boat World Championship, which will be held in 2025 on the lake in the Lipnik Forest Park and which will be hosted by the Ruse Municipality.

The excellent interaction between the RU "Angel Kanchev" and the Municipality of Ruse was noted in the welcome of Dr. Valeri Yordanov - head of the "Physical Education and Sports" department at the university. Representatives of the German orienteering club OC Munchen, sports club "Pikolo" from Turkiye, Sports club orienteering "Zlatovrv" from North Macedonia, STPD "Akademik", Speleo club "Akademik", SC "Dalian" took part in the conference through their presentations.

According to the agenda, on the second day are envisaged races in the discipline "Dragon Boats" at 500 m, and the demonstration of the attractive vessels. From 17:00 and 17:45 in the Youth Park in Ruse, competitions in orienteering and athletics running begin.
